Contact forms without code

You just designed and implemented a beautiful portfolio. You’re almost about to publish it, but remember you still have to make that static contact form actually send messages to your inbox. You google “contact form PHP”. And you know the rest.

Daily UI #010 – Social Share

Social Share This is the result: Definitely needs more love, but that was the work I could produce in the time I had. What is pictured here is a hover state on the Facebook marker. When hovered, it shows the share count. Same would happen on Twitter and Google+. Maybe later on I can dig into animating […]

Daily UI #009 – Music Player

Music Player Today’s design challenge is a music player. That task alone could take months of work, so I decided to do a mini-player for the desktop. It features a big album cover and some basic controls. Here’s the result:

Daily UI #008 – 404 page

404 page I really like jazzy 404 pages. However, I also like them to be straight to the point and very lightweight. Also, I think the “404” code adds absolutely nothing to the user, so I scratched that from the main copy. Fonts used Playfair Display for main header. Lato for copy.

Daily UI #004 – Calculator

Calculator Here’s friday’s design challenge: a calculator. I definitely wanted to polish this a bit further, but I think at this stage I’ve learned quite a bit in the process. I designed it in Sketch so I gained a bit of knowledge of the tool, also used some mockups for OS X components. I wish I had […]

Daily UI #003 – Landing Page

Landing Page (above the fold) That was today’s hint. It proved to be more challenging than previous ones. One of the reasons is because you need to think of a whole concept in which to base your design. A landing page is something that can take hours or days to do right, and I did this in less […]

Sync local and remote WordPress database

This is just a big heads-up to every WordPress developer out there, just to let them know that syncing a development/staging database doesn’t have to be a nightmare. There’s this plugin called WP Sync DB which works like magic. As a reader also suggests, WP Sync DB also has plugins that build upon the main funcionality. For example, […]

Instadownload: Download photos from Instagram web

Update 2019: This no longer works due to Instagram constantly updating it’s generated HTML. Update 02/08/2016: Updated the code to work with the latest version of Instagram. Remember, only works on photo detail page, like this. Does this look familiar? If you right-click on any Instagram photo from their web app you get this context […]

Build a simple website with Silex

I love static* websites. They’re usually faster to develop, smaller, require no database or backend and are faster to load. Of course they require more work to maintain and tweak at first, but if you’re a developer, these things should be pretty entertaining or at the very least, straightforward. There are many options out there for building […]

Portada: RSS reading app with Laravel 5

A few weeks ago, along with Pablo Massa, we launched Portada, a web app to read news from multiple sources. The Problem The problem we were trying to solve is that local news sites are mostly hard to read, hard to skim through and cluttered with ads. Also, it would be cool to have all news sources in […]

Mac space running out? Whatsapp backup to iCloud may be the cause

A few weeks ago I noticed my Mac was running a bit low on disk space. It didn’t surprise me, since I have loads of RAW photos that take up massive amounts of space, and it’s a 256GB box. However, since it hit around 15GB I’ve been keeping an eye on it. Since then, I’ve seen […]
